The U.S. is facing a major dilemma regarding the disposal of our old, tired electronic devices.  The primary problem is that most of us do not understand the threat nor the danger, both short term and long term, that these items present.  Most of us have heard about the Lead found in toys being imported from China, but few understand that the amount of lead from these toys is only a minute fraction of the lead found in a typical CRT(computer monitor or color TV).   While we clearly don't want our babies chewing on toys coated with lead paint, the leaching of lead from discarded electronics right here in the U.S. is a far bigger problem as these pollutants are getting into our ground water and underground basins.   This fact effects everyone, including the babies.

In a recent Governmental report, is was stated:  "It has been determined and recognized by the EPA that there is no safe level for lead in drinking water and  that any level poses some degree of adverse health effects‚ especially to small children."

The report  goes on to say:

"In adults‚ lead in drinking water causes high blood pressure and reduces hemoglobin   production necessary for oxygen transport and it interferes with normal cellular calcium metabolism. Water borne lead affects every one in a very tragic and permanent way. Lead exposure is cumulative and long lasting. This toxic metal is stored by the body‚ primarily in teeth and bones."

We should keep in mind that Lead is not the only Bad Guy here.  Chromium, Mercury and other dangerous materials are also part of this "electronic disposal fall-out."

Green UP USA is focused on:

a. Increasing the awareness that the dangers of that indiscriminate dumping of electronics is a Major problem in the U.S. today and is growing dramatically every day.

b. Making the disposal re-cycling process easier and simpler.

c. Resolving some of that problem by helping other Charities and Charitable groups, holding local  Electronic Collection Events.  These event not only raise awareness of the problem but generate needed revenues for that organization.  Its a win-win for everyone.

d. Being an industry watch dog with regards to promoting and policing proper disposal polices and procedures and helping consumers weed out the unreliable/illegal firms that are showing up in the business.

Green Up USA Inc. offers prudent, practical and effective environmental programs that pertain to the disposal of the billions of electronics devices that are broken, worn out or simply of no use any longer.  Our success is achieved through sound management and the the proper recycling and/or refurbishing of these electronic devices in order to improve and protect the environment.  Further,  we hope to create training and certification programs in electronic disposal technologies and compliance.

At all times, the image of Green Up USA Inc. will be that of a highly ethical and passionate organization providing electronics recycling and support for charity organizations. All business dealings will be conducted with the highest standards of quality in mind and will be executed in the most cost effective manner possible.

In order to obtain this image, we will examine and strengthen each of the following areas:

  • Personal and professional endorsements
  • Corporate Partners
  • Recycling legislation
  • Community and non-profit organizations

In addition, we all face another issue and that is which "Disposal/Re-Cycler" should we use?   Unfortunately all of these firms are not the same and many do not meet any standards from the EPA or HIPPA or other standards groups.  Many simply take these electronic discards in, sort through the piles and keep the re-recyclable and re-re-useable items then toss out the balance which ends up right back in our dumps and land fills.  Green UP USA works on helping the consumer, select the right Recycling Center in your area.
